Mobile and Fixed-Line to Be Integrated into One Service in Japan
October 07, 2005
A report in the Nihon Keizai Shimbun stated that the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has plans to integrate fixed-line and mobile phone telephony into one service, with a possible introduction date at the end of the fiscal year 2007. At home or at work people will be able to use fixed lines for their mobile phone communications via a LAN link. The Ministry will unify fixed-line and mobile phone numbers in order to lay the groundwork for this new service, and it is considering instituting one universal charging system for mobile and fixed-line communications. The Ministry has begun inviting feedback for its plan and it hopes to revise related telecom laws in the fiscal year 2006.
